Yukari Hotta
Born in Tokyo, Japan 1979
Currently lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Hotta’s work concentrates on creating objects from practical everyday items to sculptural works centred around ceramic and textiles, inspired by Mingei art and the old philosophy of wabi-sabi which celebrates the beauty of imperfection and the incomplete.
Hotta’s work leads to the approach of hand-craft and challenges the perception of beauty. She uses her hands throughout the crafting process to achieve a hand-finished appearance on the surface of her creations. She creates each piece with a slow-moving hand technique building by coiling and pinching rather than wheeling and casting.
In 2020 Hotta established TTS A&C / Ten Ten Studio Arts and Crafts, a creative centre under the Yukari Hotta brand serving as a platform for editions and multiples.
